The International team started the second day with a one-point lead, but the American team quickly turned the situation around. In the morning foursomes session, the Americans clearly won by 7.5 to 4.5. It was not the best of sessions for our players. Our three representatives fell in their respective duels. Josele Ballester took on the task of keeping the Spanish flag flying high this time and managed to scrape a point with his partner Ding after winning a very close match against Gordon Sargeant, the current World Number One in the amateur ranking, and Michael La Sasso.
In the afternoon session, the tables were turned. Europe stepped up to recover lost ground and won the mixed foursomes session by 7 to 5. Julia López was able to help with a point in this session and together with Santiago de la Fuente they defeated Anna Davis and Brandon Valdes by 2&1. Carla Bernat also added a valuable half point that allows the European team to enter the final day with everything tied.
In the decisive day, it will be the singles matches that will determine who takes the 28th edition of the Arnold Palmer Cup. After last year’s defeat and playing on European soil, the international team will try to secure the coveted victory.
