The DP World Tour revealed this Tuesday what the new qualification process for the next edition of the Ryder Cup will be like, which will be held from September 26 to 28 next year in Bethpage, New York, and which includes significant changes when choosing the participants of the European team… keeping LIV Golf out of play.

The novelty, ratified by the Tournaments Committee of the DP World Tour, is that there will only be one Ryder Cup Points List operative in the 2024-2025 qualification period, using the points obtained according to a new tournament structure implemented in agreement with the captain, Luke Donald. The following table shows the total points available in each tournament of each defined category, leaving out the Saudi tour.

In this way, the two previous lists used in previous qualifications are replaced, the World Points List, which was based on the points of the World Golf Ranking during the qualification period, and the European Points List, based on the points of the Race to Dubai during that same period. The conditions that have not changed compared to previous editions are:

· To be eligible as a member of the European team of the Ryder Cup 2025, a player must be European (defined according to the national policy of the IGF) and be a member of the DP World Tour.

· The team will be made up of the six best ranked players (from the new Ryder Cup Points List) and six personal choices of the captain.

· The qualification process for the European team of the Ryder Cup 2025 will begin at the Betfred British Masters at The Belfry from August 29 to September 1, 2024.

· The qualification process will end at the tournament of the DP World Tour that will conclude on Sunday, August 24, 2025, tournament that will be confirmed when the DP World Tour outlines its full calendar for 2025 next month.

Other important points to take into account in relation to the qualification process are the following:

· In 2024, from the beginning of the qualification campaign (August 29) until the end of the calendar year, the only place to earn Ryder Cup points will be the events of the DP World Tour, that is, the Back 9, the playoffs of the DP World Tour and the events of the Opening Swing of the 2025 season.

· Ryder Cup points can only be earned at PGA Tour events from January 1, 2025 to Sunday, August 17, 2025.

· No points will be assigned to any event scheduled during the tournaments of the Rolex Series (according to the 2023 qualification campaign) except at the ISCO Championship of 2025 at the PGA TOUR, which coincides with the Genesis Scottish Open.

· Points will be assigned to The Zurich Classic at the PGA TOUR with 50% of each position assigned to each team player, but only if both players are European.

The European captain Luke Donald has assured to be “delighted to be able to confirm the details of the qualification process for our team of the Ryder Cup 2025“. According to the British golfer, “a lot of work has been done behind the scenes to get to this point and now everything is focused on doing everything possible to retain the trophy in New York next September”.

Guy Kinnings, CEO of the PGA European Tour, Managing Partner of Ryder Cup Europe LLP, said: “This is a moment that marks an important milestone on our path to the Ryder Cup of 2025. It is undoubtedly a much cleaner and simpler qualification system than those used in previous years and we thank Luke and his vice-captains Edoardo Molinari and Thomas Bjørn for their vital contribution over the past few months”.
