The European Legends Cup by José María Olazábal, which will take place next September, will pay tribute to one of golf’s greats, José María Olazábal, in a tournament to be played on a course that bears his signature, the Real Nuevo Club de Golf de San Sebastián, Basozábal.
The European Legends Cup by José María Olazábal, to be held from 5th to 7th September, returns to Spain following the success of last year’s inaugural edition at Golf Almerimar (Almería), where Adilson da Silva won in a play-off.
This year will be the first time that Basozábal, located on the outskirts of San Sebastián, hosts such a significant tournament. With stunning mountain views and a strategic layout that harmoniously integrates into the surrounding landscape, Basozábal will be a tough test for the players of the Legends Tour.
“It is an honour for the Legends Tour to come to San Sebastián,” says Olazábal, “and for the European Legends Cup to be played on a course I have designed with such passion and dedication. Great friends who are tournament winners worldwide will come to the tournament, and knowing they will compete on a course that reflects my vision of the game is a huge satisfaction. I am sure they will enjoy the course and my city. It will be a very important week for me, and I hope to rise to the occasion.”

One of the most well-known and beloved players in world golf, Olazábal, with a 40-year career and a member of the Hall of Fame, has played in 104 Majors and achieved over 30 tournament victories worldwide, including two unforgettable wins at the Masters in Augusta. He has also reached legendary status in 12 Ryder Cups. That includes seven as a player – many alongside his mentor Severiano Ballesteros as the most successful pair in Ryder Cup history – once as a winning captain in Medinah in 2012, and four as vice-captain.
Soon it will be five following the recent confirmation of Olazábal’s return to the team of captain Luke Donald, as Europe seeks its first victory on American soil since Olazábal himself achieved the “Miracle of Medinah,” where he overturned a 10-6 deficit on the final day of 2012.

The European Legends Cup by José María Olazábal will be held from 5th to 7th September thanks to the joint collaboration of European Tour Group with Staysure, as well as Viñas Familia Gil and Maximiliano Jabugo, under the organisation of JGolf.
