The ANWA is here. The Augusta National Women’s Amateur (2 to 5 April) kicks off this Wednesday with the sixth edition of a tournament that is here to stay. The world’s best amateurs compete for the glory of winning an event that can already be considered one of the most important of the year, if not the most.
Representation of the Armada – Six Spanish players compete to be the first national in history to win this prestigious event. It sounds quick, but having six of our own compete is truly remarkable in a field of 72 players, of which the top 30 American players in the world ranking always receive invitations. The top 41 players in the world will be participating from this Wednesday.
We are the second country with the most representation. United States leads with 32, followed by Spain with 6. Behind are major powers in women’s golf such as Sweden (4), Japan (3), and Thailand (3). It is noteworthy that only two English players are competing.
Paula Martín, Cata Fernández García Poggio, Carla Tejedo, Rocio Tejedo, Carolina López Chacarra, and Carla Bernat are the Spanish players who have received the invitation to play for glory. The same as twelve months ago, with the exception of Julia López, who has turned professional.
Tournament format – It is played in Stroke Play format. The first two rounds (Wednesday and Thursday) are played at Champions Retreat Golf Club, and the 30 players who make the cut will fight for the crown on Saturday at Augusta National. In the event of a tie for the 30th place after the first two rounds, a playoff will be held to determine which player advances to the final round.
However, on Friday all golfers will be able to enjoy a practice round on the legendary Georgian course.

The Number One seeks the double crown – Last year’s champion will be present to fight for her reign. Lottie Woad triumphed in 2024 over Bailley Shoemaker in a thrilling finish and seeks the impossible. So far, no player has been able to win two consecutive years. Lottie is the current World Number One and is eager to prove she can achieve something historic.
Prize – Beyond being crowned in Augusta, winning the ANWA brings lucrative rewards: invitations to the next five ANWAs, the US Women’s Open 2025, and the Women’s British Open 2025, and to any amateur event of the USGA, the R&A, and the PGA of America for which she is eligible before the next ANWA, provided she remains an amateur.
A Record Carol – 33 players are debuting in the tournament, while 39, including the Spanish players, are participating for at least the second time. In the Armada, the most experienced is undoubtedly Carolina López Chacarra, who is playing her fifth ANWA. Tomorrow she will equal Emilia Migliacco as the player with the most appearances in the ANWA. It is very difficult to play this tournament, and Carol continues to demonstrate remarkable consistency each year to be among the best amateurs in the world.
