The Ryder Cup 2031 is going to be held at the PGA de Catalunya. Definitely. The official announcement hasn’t been made yet, but we at Ten Golf can guarantee it. After overcoming the political obstacles of the previous Generalitat government, the agreement is complete, the papers are more than signed, and all that remains is for the authorities to make it public.
According to this media outlet, the Catalan government, led by Salvador Illa, plans to announce the hosting of the Ryder Cup in 2031 at the end of this October, or early November at the latest. In other words, in just over two weeks.
Specifically, the idea is to make the official presentation of the project once the America’s Cup sailing event, currently taking place in Barcelona, concludes. On 12 October, the Match Race of the 37th edition of the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup began and will end next Sunday, 27 October. The following week would be the ideal time to launch the new major sporting project of Catalonia to the world for the coming years.
As we have been reporting at Ten Golf, the 2031 Ryder Cup, the next in Europe after the Irish Adare Manor 2027, will be played at the PGA de Catalunya on a course that will be a mix of holes from the two existing courses, the Stadium course and the Hills course, where the Final Stage of the DP World Tour Qualifying School has been held for several years.
Additionally, the PGA de Catalunya hosted the 2014 Open de España, which ended with Miguel Ángel Jiménez winning in a playoff. The designer of the Catalan course is Ángel Gallardo, who always dreamed that his course would one day host the Ryder Cup. The personal commitment of the complex’s owner, currently called Camiral Golf & Wellness, the Irishman Dennis O’Brien, has been crucial in securing the Ryder Cup bid.
In the coming years, Camiral Golf will have to host DP World Tour tournaments, as has been the case with all courses that have hosted the Ryder Cup in recent years. In this regard, it is not ruled out that from 2025 we might already see a European Tour event on the Girona course.
