Night falls in Charlotte. The first day has ended. Bryson DeChambeau and Sergio García played in the afternoon session and meet again on the practice field. DeChambeau’s routine is classic. Sergio’s is a rarity. Rarely does the golfer from Borriol hit balls after a day of competition. Even less so if he played in the afternoon and has a morning start the next day. We would say Bryson sticks to his usual routine, while Sergio tries to find some good feeling after a bad day off the tee.
There is less and less light, and eventually, only the two of them remain on the range. It is then that the ‘challenge’ occurs. Fun, of course. Sergio starts by telling DeChambeau: “I’m not leaving here until you leave.” To which last year’s US Open champion responds: “I hope you brought dinner, good luck. We might still be here tomorrow morning. When I was young, there were times I hit up to a thousand balls and ended up with blood on my hands. Sometimes even for two days in a row. Sorry, Sergio, but I don’t think you can beat me.”
It’s a PGA Championship, it’s a Major, we’re in the middle of the competition, and neither of them has done particularly well, but there’s always time for a laugh. The scene was captured by the PGA Championship video team.
