Bryson DeChambeau is an expert with numbers. Everyone knows it. He studied Physics at university and has always proven to be a whizz in everything related to maths, angles, factors. That’s why they call him the scientist. You know, he created his own clubs, designed them, manufactured them in 3D and is a real scholar of everything that can be controlled in golf through numbers. However, yesterday his calculations failed him…

Before starting to play he was convinced that -18 would be a winning score and he told his caddie so. “Yes, I really thought 18 was going to be enough. Then, when I saw what Xander was doing and it was like, watch out, this gentleman is playing incredible golf. Plus, Viktor was also there, beating me for a long time… I don’t really know what to say, I got the figure wrong, but it was an impressive round of golf from the three of us”.

DeChambeau did not hide his disappointment at coming second in the PGA Championship. When he made the putt and got to -20, he knew he could be the winner, although he gave all the credit to Schauffele. “Proud of Xander for finally being able to win. He’s an incredible golfer and a deserving Grand Champion. He’s been playing well for a long, long time. I played against him as a junior. It’s great to see him… He’s not only a great human being, but an incredible golfer and he’s proven it this week. I’m very happy for him”.

The Californian golfer, however, wanted to make it clear that he has not played to the best of his abilities this week. Perhaps that’s where he wasn’t so elegant. “Coming second is disappointing, but it doesn’t matter. I played well without having my best golf all week. I felt I had my “B” game more or less. My putt was A+, my wedges were A+, the short game was A+ and the driver was like B. Making -20 in a Major is something to be very proud of myself for the way I handled adversity. Disappointing, but with a lot of momentum for the rest of the majors. Today I said it was time to win, but it will be in the next majors”.

Regarding the mistakes from the tee, DeChambeau referred to the one at hole 16, when his ball bounced off the trees. “I was very lucky and my caddie told me: this is the kind of luck you need to win a Major, but now you have to take advantage of it. I think I didn’t do badly. I hit a great second shot and got a very good birdie”.

DeChambeau assures that he is happy at LIV because it gives him time for more things. “I feel that every time I play I empty myself, so it’s good to have several weeks to recover. It also allows me to spend more time working on my game and, in addition, to continue learning and improving with my Youtube channel. I’m experiencing very interesting things and it’s thanks to having more time”, he pointed out.
