The Spanish players Paula de Francisco and Paula Martín will face each other this Saturday for a place in the semi-finals of the 122nd edition of the Women’s Amateur Championship being held at Nairn Golf Club (in the north of Scotland). Both have overcome two tense rounds on a great Friday for Spanish golf.
On Friday afternoon, Paula Francisco eliminated India’s Manaat Bar on the 18th hole in a match she always had in hand with minimal leads, while Paula Martín derailed American Morgan Miller also on the 18th hole with her only birdie of the afternoon.
In the morning, in the round of the last 16, the two Spaniards achieved even more epic victories. Paula de Francisco was trailing American Jasmine Koo for almost the entire match, falling four holes behind the ninth in the World Ranking; however, she put everything on the line to change the dynamic, tie on the 18th with a birdie and win on the 19th.
Equally epic was Paula Martín’s victory over fellow American Megan Propeck, who led authoritatively until the 14th hole, at which point the player from Madrid reversed the trend. A birdie on the 18th granted her passage to the last 16.
