After the thrashing that the international team has returned this Friday to the American in the foursomes session, the captains of both teams, Mike Weir and Jim Furyk, have unveiled their choices for the first of tomorrow’s two playing sessions. Four matches in fourball format in which they have practically held nothing back, betting on their trusted players in search of the points that unbalance the tie that now adorns the scoreboard of the Presidents Cup.
As if he wanted to make it clear that today has been an accident and take the initiative from the beginning, Furyk has decided that the World Number One, Scottie Scheffler, will open the round, partnering with Collin Morikawa. Weir has responded with another of his trusted pairs, the Australian Adam Scott, who with his point on Friday is already the player who has contributed the most to the international team in the entire history of the tournament (with 22), and the Canadian Taylor Pendrith, to engage the audience.
Tony Finau and Xander Schauffele will play the second fourball match against two other Canadians, Corey Conners and Mackenzie Hughes. The third duel will be for Keegan Bradley, captain of next year’s Ryder Cup team, and Wyndham Clark, who will face Si Woo Kim, stellar this Friday adding the fifth point of his team, along with Tom Kim. And closing the morning session will be Patrick Cantlay and Sam Burns facing Hideki Matsuyama and Sungjae Im.
After these four matches, the two captains will reveal their chosen pairs for Saturday afternoon’s session, with another four duels, this time in the foursomes mode that the internationals dominated on Friday.
