The third day of the Evian Championship has resulted in a rather unusual leaderboard for a Major. The French event, the fourth Major of the season, points to a victory for a newcomer, something that is becoming recurrent in this tournament and is increasingly less strange in women’s golf. The alternation and the appearance of new faces is almost a constant.

With 18 holes to go, the Australian Stephanie Kyriacou (-14) leads the leaderboard, followed one stroke behind by Lauren Coughlin (-13) and Ayaka Furue (-13). In fourth position, four strokes behind the leader, the Thai Pajareee Annanarukarn (-10) marches alone. None of these four players have ever won a Major and they have not even come close. The victory should be among them, although it remains to be seen how the pressure of being in this situation affects them.

The first Major winner in the leaderboard is Patty Tavatanakit (-9), who today has faltered with a round over par of 72 strokes and has been left somewhat far from the target. In fact, in the entire top 10, the Thai is the only one who can boast of having won a Major. Conclusion: the outcome of the Evian is going to be very open.

Many heavyweights are missing who have been left far behind, such as Nelly Korda, Lydia Ko or Brooke Henderson. Marta Martín (+5) has also not had her best day, the only Spaniard who has managed to make the cut. The Madrid-born player has handed in a card of 77 strokes, with two birdies, six bogeys and a double bogey, and has fallen to the bottom of the leaderboard. Tomorrow it’s time to make a comeback to finish as high as possible.
