Jon Rahm (+4) has made the cut at the Masters Tournament at Augusta after carding a very good round of 70 strokes in the second round. The golfer from Barrika thus joins a historic club that until now had been made up of only four players. From today, the club increases to five.

Jon has made his tenth cut at the Masters, that is, all consecutive since he debuted at Augusta back in 2017. The milestone is considerable. Before the golfer from Biscay, only four men had achieved it consecutively in their first ten appearances.

The list, obviously, starts in 1957, the year the cut was introduced at the Masters, and is composed of the following players:

– Frank Beard (1965 – 1974). They were 10 in a row.

– Tom Weiskopf (1968 – 1979). They were 12 in a row.

– Larry Mize (1984 – 1994). They were 11 in a row.

– John Huston  (1990 – 2001). They were 12 in a row.

– Jon Rahm (2017 – 2026). They are 10 in a row.

Best of all is that Jon can still extend his record and would be three away from breaking them all, something that is by no means easy. First because you have to play all those Masters consecutively and second because you have to make the weekend.

The club, we insist and clarify, is made up of the players who managed to make the cut in their first ten appearances at the Masters and to do so consecutively, which makes it all the more meritorious. There are other players who also made the cut in their first ten or more appearances at the Masters, but they were not consecutive, there were absences between them. These are the cases of Fred Couples (an impressive run of 23 consecutive cuts since his debut, but with some years of absence), Justin Rose or Nick Faldo with 13, Tom Kite with 12, Paul Harney and Bobby Nichols with 11 or Doug Sanders with 10. We insist: they did it in their first appearances, but they were not consecutive.

Moreover, Rahm is the second Masters player with the most impressive active consecutive cuts streak. He is only surpassed by Matthew Fitpzatrick. The Englishman, with today’s, has a total of eleven consecutive cuts, all from 2016 to 2026. He had previously missed the cut as an amateur in his first appearance in 2014.

To achieve this impressive sequence, Rahm managed to find an adjustment to his golf in time between Thursday and Friday. “I knew what was happening to me, but one thing is theory and another is putting it into practice. Yesterday I finished playing the last holes very well. Afterwards I went to the practice range, although the aim was more to release frustration than anything else. Today I played much better. In fact, I only had two bad swings in the whole round, the second on the 8th and the tee shot at the 13th,” he told the media today.

Having made the cut, Rahm is already looking up. The victory is absolutely off the radar, but he believes a top 10 could be within reach. If the weekend gets tougher, tenth place could be at -2. “That means that by shooting three under each day I could do it. It’s very difficult, but it doesn’t seem impossible to me. We’ll see what Augusta does with the course, since they can set it up to be savage or not. It’s all in their hands.”

Jon has admitted that the cut was on his mind all day. It was the main objective. He thought the number had to be, at minimum, +5, so after the birdie he made at the 16th, after hitting a great shot, he was in the clear. In this regard, the man from Barrika says the course was somewhat more playable today. “They haven’t set it tougher and, besides, holes 13 and 15 are more playable than yesterday and, above all, the pin positions on holes 16, 17 and 18 allow better birdie opportunities than yesterday’s”.
