From early this Tuesday, the final preliminary of the Open Championship is underway. It is being held at four different courses across the United Kingdom. A total of 288 players are participating, with four places being distributed at each of the courses. A very demanding challenge commensurate with the reward: playing the British Open in two weeks at Royal Troon, Scotland.
The preliminary is played over 36 holes in one day, which also poses a physical challenge. We have ten Spaniards in the fray looking for one of those 16 places up for grabs. These are our representatives according to the course where they play:
– Burnham & Berrow: Joel Moscatel
– Dundonald Links: Marcel Fonseca and Ángel Hidalgo
– Royal Cinque Ports: Eugenio López Chacarra, Jaime Montojo and Luis Masaveu
– West Lancashire: Sergio García, Borja Virto, Quim Vidal and Josele Ballester
For a more general coverage of what is happening in each of the preliminaries, you can check the live blog being carried out by the official website of The Open at this link.
Although Rafa Cabrera Bello and Ángel Ayora were also initially registered, they have decided not to play at the last minute. Both are participating this week in the BMW International Open of the DP World Tour.
