The Royal & Ancient announced this Monday the names of six more golfers who have qualified for the Open Championship. The tournament, with the exception of the three spots offered by the Scottish Open, is now closed, barring any last-minute withdrawals.

Where do these six come from? Once all the established qualification criteria have been completed, except for the Scottish Open, if there are still spots to fill, they are completed in strict order of world ranking. In other words, the best players in the world as of this Monday who were not already exempt. A total of 156 players will compete in the Open, and there were 147 qualified. This is why there have been six. It reaches the figure of 153, and only the three from Scotland remain.

As it stands, the last to board the Open train are Aldrich Potgieter, Nicolás Echavarría, Brian Campbell (thanks to his victory this Sunday at the John Deere, he made the necessary leap in the world ranking), Michael Kim, Bud Cauley, and Davis Thompson. The latter failed on Sunday in his attempt to win the John Deere for the second consecutive time, but at least he secured a spot in the Open.

If for any reason the three remaining spots in the Scottish Open are not filled (they are awarded to the top three in the standings who are not already exempt, but with the condition that they have made the cut), the world ranking would be used again to reach 156. Currently, the first two reserves are Si Woo Kim and David Riley.
