The Royal Porthcawl Golf Club in Wales hosts a new edition of the AIG Women’s Open, the prestigious British Women’s Open, starting this Thursday. This event, a red-letter day on the calendar for the world’s top female golfers, will feature strong Spanish representation with Carlota Ciganda, Julia López, Marta Martín, María Hernández, and amateurs Carla Bernat and Paula Martín.
The tournament organization released the tee times and groupings for the first two rounds on Wednesday. The schedule kicks off early (6:30 AM Thursday local time, one hour later in Spain), with the primary goal, as always, being to make the cut on Friday and secure a strong position heading into the weekend to challenge for the top spots on the leaderboard.
The first Spaniard to tee off in this AIG Women’s Open will be Paula Martín at 9:58 AM (Spanish mainland time), playing alongside Gabriela Ruffels and Albane Valenzuela. Immediately after, at 10:09 AM, Julia López will take the course with Ina Yoon and Alexa Pano. Paula and Julia will be the only Spanish players in the morning session of the first round.
In the afternoon, Carlota Ciganda will play alongside Mimi Rhodes and In Gee Chun in one of the day’s marquee matchups, starting at 2:54 PM. Carla Bernat will begin her participation in this British Women’s Open at 3:16 PM, paired with Shinsil Bang and Bronte Law. Meanwhile, Marta Martín, playing with Cassie Porter and Devi Weber at 4:22 PM, and María Hernández, accompanied by Haeji Kang and Brianna Do at 4:38 PM, will feature in the final two groups of the day.
