Masters champion Dustin Johnson tries on the Green Jacket after his 20-under-par victory during Round 4 of the Masters at Augusta National Golf Club, Sunday, November 15, 2020.

It pays to play well at Augusta National.

This year’s 86th Masters Tournament is setting a pair of records in regards to prize money, with the 2022 event boasting a $15 million purse, up from $11.5 million in 2021. The winner will take home $2.7 million, up from the $2.07 million Hideki Matsuyama earned last year.

Second and third place will each earn seven-figure checks, with the runner-up taking home $1.62 million and third $1.02 million.

Horton Smith earned $1,500 for his win at the first-ever Masters. Ben Crenshaw was the first six-figure winner in 1984, taking home $108,000. Tiger Woods won in 2001, the first time the Masters champion earned more than 1 million ($1,008,000).

The most recent cut rule change came in 2020 and is still in effect for 2022, with the low 50 players and ties qualifying for the final 36 holes.

Professionals that failed to make the cut this time – like Jordan Spieth, Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau – earned $10,000. The six amateur players in the field do not receive money, regardless of whether they make the cut.

The full prize money payout is below, with the remainder of players receiving cash prizes “ranging downward from $36,900, depending on scores.” See the list below.
