The 2021-22 PGA TOUR marches on to its next event: The Honda Classic 2022, which will be held at the PGA National down in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Last year, Matt Jones topped the field and took home the biggest cut of the titanic purse, which has even gotten bigger this year.

The purse in the Honda Classic has gotten a massive boost this year. In 2021, the purse was only $7 million, with Jones cashing in a check worth $1.26 million for his win. This time, the winner will be receiving a total of $1.440 million. The money in this tournament hasn’t always been this huge.
When this tourney started in 1972 when it was still known as the Jackie Gleason’s Inverrary Classic, the purse was just $260,000 and the winner’s cut was $52,000 – won by the great Jack Nicklaus. The purse for the tournament would hit the $1-million mark in 1990, with John Huston pocketing $180,000 for his victory.
With a 144-player field, a cut is made after 36 holes to the top 65 players and ties for the final two rounds of the tournament. All players who finish four rounds of the tournament will earn money.

Beyond money, there are important points, perks and benefits on the line for the field — in particular, the tournament winner.
The winner of this event will get 500 FedEx Cup points.The winner gets 42 Official World Golf Ranking points, with the points available based on field strength.
Winning comes with other big benefits, including a three-plus season exemption on the PGA Tour, as well berths into the 2022 Masters and 2022 PGA Championship, as well next year’s Sentry Tournament of Champions.
