A good opportunity for Andersson

The New Course at Atalaya Golf Club will be host this Thursday and Friday to the fourteenth tournament of the Gecko Tour season. The calendar is made up of 21 tournaments and the grand finale at Finca Cortesín, which is why it’s safe to say that the best winter tour in Europe has already jumped into the second half of the year. Thus, it’s the moment to start focusing on what’s happening with the Order of Merit. Each week is a new opportunity to take home the victory and to be crowned as champion of the Gecko Tour and thus to gain access to the complete Alps Tour card. Which is no small feat…

At the moment, the Gecko leader is Sam Connor, although the British golfer will not be present at Atalaya. Which means, it will be an excellent opportunity for Andreas Andersson, in second place, to gain some ground and to keep the fight alive for first place.

Apart from Andersson, there are other golfers who are very high up in the order of merit and who are counting on accumulating a good handful of points at Atalaya. Some of whom are Frederik From, Gonzalo Gancedo, Gabriel Cañizares, Steven Jones and Jan Friesz, all among the top ten in the overall tour rankings.

Beyond the fight for the victory in the order of merit, it’s important to take into consideration all the golfers who are prepared and in shape at Atalaya such as Jordi García del Moral, winner on Tuesday at Paraíso, Dermot McElroy and Noemí Jiménez, apart from those who are always favored to win: Carlos del Moral, James Robinson and Mark Tullo.

In short, another grand tournament in the Gecko Tour, another opportunity to see a good majority of the best players who live in the Costa del Sol and surrounding areas and, another great test to calibrate each player’s level physically and mentally before the start of the Challenge Tour.
