Desert Springs set for Qualifying School Second Stage debut

Desert Springs Resort, home to Europe’s only award-winning championship desert golf course, will host European Tour Qualifying School Second Stage for the first time from November 3-6, 2017.

Set in the Almanzora region of Almeria in southeast Spain, the renowned venue is famed for its immaculate fairways, which are set amongst massive rocky outcrops and arroyos.

Inspired by the desert courses of Arizona and California, the par 72 championship Indiana course is no stranger to hosting high quality tournament golf having staged the season-ending Tour Championship of the satellite EuroPro Tour for the last two seasons.

More than 600,000 cacti and other desert plants await those who are wayward off the tee, and the demanding desert course should provide a stern test for the European Tour hopefuls looking to make it through to Final Stage – which will be held at Lumine Golf Club for the first time this season.

“We are thrilled to welcome Desert Springs to the Qualifying School network,” said Mike Stewart, Qualifying School Director.

“After doing such a phenomenal job when hosting the EuroPro Tour Grand Final for the past two years it was an easy decision to ask Desert Springs to join our schedule.

“We are delighted that they have confirmed, and we must thank everyone at Desert Springs Resort, particularly their Director of Golf, Simon Coaker.

“He and his team have made an exceptional effort over the years to develop this beautiful resort, and I am sure our players will enjoy the results of their hard work during the Second Stage Qualifier in November.”

“Desert Springs Resort is both delighted and honored to have been invited to be host to the Second Stage of European Tour Qualifying School,” said Desert Springs Director of Golf, Simon Coaker.

“The Indiana course is a stimulating test of golf, it’s a thinking man’s course, not easy to overpower, offering a variety of shot making challenges to test the skill level of every player and one that requires excellent course management skills.

“For Desert Springs Resort and the Indiana course to be part of the journey that the best players in Europe travel, is a factor of both benefit and prestige to all at the Resort.

“We very much look forward to welcoming the class of 2017 to Desert Springs Resort and to providing them with a wonderful experience.”
