Agustín Domingo enters the weekend at the Gujarat Kensville Challenge vying for a maiden Challenge Tour title after a one over par second round of 73 left him three shots off the lead in India…
The Barcelona man entered the day as the leader after breaking the course record at the pristine Kensville Golf and Country Club with a six under par opening round 66.
A birdie at the 12th, his third hole, signalled continuing momentum on the second day but he struggled to get it going as he carded three bogeys and just one more birdie on the way to a one over par round.
Nevertheless, the 31 year old is happy to be entering the final two days challenging for the title and was pleased with his game despite the seven shot difference between his opening round and second round.
“It might sound crazy but I actually played better from tee to green than I did on the first day but today I just didn’t hole any putts,” he said. “I missed four greens and made three bogeys so the putter was really cold, which is a pity really.
“I made some stupid bogeys and was in the water at the third hole and had to drop. The last few tournaments of last year I was struggling with my putting so I was really happy with my first day here so I hope it comes back for the rest of the week.
“It’s a good place to be right now. I didn’t expect to be in this position going into the weekend and if I can keep going this way I will have a chance but we will see.”
Meanwhile, Andrew McArthur was in pole position for a first European Challenge Tour title in five years as the Scotsman moved two shots clear thanks to a three under par second round of 69.
On the day when Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar visited the prestigious Kensville Golf and Country Club, one home favourite drew inspiration from the presence of his sporting idol as Shiv Kapur carded a one under par 71 to enter the weekend in second place on six under.
