Anders Emil Ejlersen was born at the turn of the twentieth century and he’s already the champion of the Gecko Tour. Just 17 years old. That’s how well-prepared the new generation of golfers is. Amateur, Danish and with a putt that can make time stand still. He’s the embodiment of a young rising star, winner on the Heathland course at Alcaidesa, host of the nineteenth tournament of the season of the best winter tour in Europe.

Ejlersen won with a total of 139 shots. He shot a 72 on Thursday and a 67 on Friday. Powerful stuff. His victory was sealed in a brilliant moment of madness. The start of the round today was unreal. Birdies on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th… up to the 7th on the first ten holes of the day. Monumental. “It was definitely the key. Those ten holes were fantastic. The putter was on fire. I’m very happy. It’s wonderful to be able to say that I won a professional tournament and I’m sure it will be an amazing experience for the future”, assured the young Danish golfer from Viborg, just after receiving his trophy as champion.

Ejlersen will be back at it tomorrow in Denmark to start the amateur season in his country. He’s in no rush to go pro, although he is confident that one day he’ll be able to make a living from golf. His goal is to study and to train in the US. “I would love to be able to live out of this, but I’ve got to go little by little. The truth is that 2016 was my best year as a golfer. My idol is Tiger Woods”, admits the young champion, already winner of various amateur tournaments.

Thus, the Gecko boasts talented young promises in European golf once again. It’s not the first amateur who’s won in the Costa del Sol tour. Before him have been Mario Galiano, Marcus Kinhult and Sami Valimaki. It’s become a recruiting machine in discovering golfers with an extraordinary future. One day he’ll think back on the Gecko as where he took home his first victory.

The next tournament will be on Monday and Tuesday of next week. One of the other major courses in Andalusia, neighboring club to Alcaidesa. San Roque Golf Club, a course which has been host to European Tour tournaments. It will be held on the New Course.
