Sebastian Heisele is looking to build on the solid start he has made to the European Challenge Tour season by raising his game to another level at the Made in Denmark Challenge – Presented by Ejner Hessel.
The German has been remarkably consistent on Europe’s top developmental tour, not missing a single cut in his eight events so far on the 2016 Road to Oman.
After finishing tied fourth at the season-opening Barclays Kenya Open in Nairobi, the 27 year old has gone on to amass a further four top 20 finishes.
But six foot seven inch Heisele is not content with his performances so far this season, and aims to be vying for top spot at Aalborg Golf Klub this week.
“Finishing 15th each week won’t get you anywhere,” said Heisele, who graduated on to the Challenge Tour in 2015 after finishing second in the Order of Merit on the satellite ProGolf Tour.
“I haven’t missed a cut this year but I just need to get four days together that are somewhat consistent. I haven’t really had a decent final round until last week where it bumped me up quite a bit to finish 15th coming from 42nd, so it was nice to be able to do that.
“So far this season I haven’t been able to hold out for a low one on the final day, and while I have been able to shoot one or two under that doesn’t cut it out here – I have tended to lose spots on the last day after shooting those scores. So to go through four rounds playing consistently would be great.
“Averaging three or four under each day should give you a good chance. Obviously you need a big round out here to make your move. So I need to step it up a notch, take two weeks off and come back refreshed and make it work from there.
“Somewhere in the top five would be really nice before I go on my holidays!”
Heisele, who turned professional in 2012, will be playing in Denmark for the second time after teeing it up at the inaugural Made in Denmark Challenge in Copenhagen last year.
“The course this week looks great,” he said. “The greens are in very good condition and it looks like a lot of fun. Depending on the wind it could play a bit tricky but there is now no wind so someone could go and shoot low.
“I haven’t necessarily struggled with my short game but I have certainly dropped a few shots from that part of my game. On the chipping and putting side I feel that I have been making some good strokes but sometimes it hasn’t dropped for me.
“The greens are good enough so that if you do feel confident you can start dropping a few. It makes it simpler for you to step up to a putt thinking that you can give it a good roll.”
Joining Heisele in Denmark are English duo Paul Howard and Jack Senior who will both be playing at The Open Championship at Royal Troon after coming through Final Qualifying on Monday.
Among the home favourites is three-time Challenge Tour winner Andreas Hartø – whose first victory came on home soil in 2010.
Alexander Knappe of Germany, Englishman Jordan Smith and Scotland’s Duncan Stewart, all winners already this season on the Challenge Tour, are also in the field as is three-time European Tour winner Johan Edfors.
