Two-time Major Champion Martin Kaymer is looking to add another prestigious title to his impressive collection when he tees it up in the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth Club from May 25-28, the first tournament in the European Tour’s new Rolex Series.

The former World and European Number One is no stranger to delivering on golf’s grandest stages, having won the 2010 US PGA Championship and the 2014 US Open, while in 2012 he famously secured the point which ensure European retained The Ryder Cup in The Miracle of Medinah.

Kaymer will make his 11th consecutive appearance over the West Course, which has been revamped for 2017, with his best finish so far a share of seventh place 12 months ago.

The German joins some of his 2016 Ryder Cup teammates already confirmed for the BMW PGA Championship, including World Number Two Rory McIlroy, Open Champion Henrik Stenson and Olympic Champion Justin Rose as part of a star-studded line-up. “It’s a big one,” said Kaymer. “It’s one of those events you would like to win in your career one day.

“You know those are the ones you want to watch on TV because it’s always had a good feeling, the golf course was always in great shape, and it’s fun to watch. It makes it almost impossible to miss in my opinion.”

This year’s BMW PGA Championship launches the European Tour’s Rolex Series – an alliance of eight events all with minimum prize funds of US$7million – and the 11-time European Tour winner has given his support to the new initiative, as well as the changes to the West Course.

“I’m very impressed by it,” said Kaymer. “Not only the European Tour but also by Rolex for showing so much interest. I know Rolex has been a sponsor for many years and became a strong partner of the European Tour, but to show so much faith and trust in our Tour and in their players, I think it’s huge.

“I’m looking forward to seeing the new West Course too. It is always very interesting when you come back to a golf course when you know how it was and what kind of changes they have done, and that they are really better.

“They have put a lot of work in there, they have put in a lot of money, and it should be one of the best golf courses we play on the European Tour because of the ranking of the tournament.”
