Min Woo Lee leads former World Number One Adam Scott by one stroke at the halfway stage of the Fortinet Australian PGA Championship.

Lee, a two-time DP World Tour winner, followed his opening round 64 with a five under par 66 to move to 12 under par at Royal Queensland. The 25-year-old is seeking a second victory on home soil to add to his 2020 ISPS HANDA Vic Open success.

Former Masters Tournament winner Adam Scott carded a six under par 65 to move to within one stroke of the lead as he went bogey free in search of a hat-trick of Joe Kirkwood Cup victories. He first won this event in 2013, the same year as his triumph at Augusta National, and again in 2019.

Fellow Australian John Lyras is third on ten under par, and two strokes further back are compatriots Lucas Herbert and Curtis Luck. Joining them on eight under par is first-round leader Joel Moscatel, of Spain, who carded a level par 71.

Cameron John and Rikuya Hoshino share seventh on seven under, while DP World Tour members Rafa Cabrera Bello and David Micheluzzi are among five golfers sharing ninth on six under.

Player Quotes

Min Woo Lee: “It’s amazing. Only a few years ago I was dreaming to be in this spot, especially to play with Scotty. It seems only like a few years ago I was in the Interstate Series watching him winning the Masters. It is cool to have him as a friend and play in the final group. Anywhere you are in the final group of any tournament, it’s a pretty good achievement, so hopefully I can keep it going.

“I don’t think (the crowd) is going to be split. I think we’re excited to play some good golf in front of them and hopefully we can get some roars in crowds. I don’t know, I hope it’s not split like that. I think I’ve got tremendous support over the last two days and last year, so hopefully it’s going to be like that tomorrow.”

Adam Scott: “I didn’t really think of a number like (six under), but I played really well, so it’s possible. Someone’s going to have a good score out there; it may as well be me.

“I’m generally pleased with all areas of the game, but I feel like my game tee to green has been better. My striking feels better than it has been, feeling a bit more comfortable and also doing what I want it to do a bit more often. So, that’s very pleasing for me, good for the confidence too going into the weekend.”

Joel Moscatel: “Obviously was not as good as yesterday.  We made a couple of mistakes off the tee, a few shots that didn’t go as close as it can get, but yeah, finishing strong like that, it feels good.

“I had nerves. Was not that bad as I expect, but yeah, I was nervous obviously. Also the round didn’t start quite nice, we can say, but I was feeling calm because I know I’m playing good. We just stayed patient and finally dropped a few birdies on the last holes.”
