Just less than 20 hours after The Open Championship in Royal Troon Golf Club (Scotland) 17 of the world’s best golfers teed it up again. On the evening of the 17th of July, stars like Rory McIlroy, Rickie Fowler, Adam Scott, Justin Rose, Lee Westwood and Zach Johnson traveled from Scotland to the Grand Resort Bad Ragaz in Switzerland to support their friend and fellow professional Sergio Garcia in his Charity Pro-Am for the benefit of the Sergio Garcia Foundation. The next highlight followed already on the next morning with Henrik Stenson’s arrival as the new Open Champion.
“I am excited and proud about how many good friends came straight from The Open to Bad Ragaz to give my charity event their big support. To have Henrik here makes it very special,” says Sergio Garcia visibly proud of how many Major winners and Ryder Cup players accepted his invitation.
“My foundation does several things. We have conducted golf schools for professionals to teach them how to teach disabled people to get into the game, both on the mental and physical side, and we give money to other charities. With this event in Bad Ragaz we directly support the Childrens Cancer Foundation in Basel. My whole team and I are working on ensuring everything is done the best way possible and to ensure that the money goes where it can do “good”! We are all excited about the things we can achieve.”
The event was given a special flair by golf anchorman David Feherty, the Swiss three star chef Andreas Caminada as well as Saxophone/Jazz legend Kenny G. and DJ Giulia Siegel, who turned the tournament dinner at the 5-Star Hotel Grand Resort Bad Ragaz, with almost 200 invited guests, into an unforgettable evening.
“Any time you can do something like this and help people who need it, it’s great. I couldn’t be more proud of it and it makes you feel good to be able to help. It’s important for us as players to do something like this and not only play golf, but do some extra things. We are very fortunate to be able to do what we do and do it well, which means we get paid nicely. So it’s nice to be able to help people who need it the most.”
