It will be the thirteenth tournament of the season and it ends this Tuesday, but neither the Gecko Tour believes in bad luck, nor are there reasons to think anything may happen. The lineup of golfers who will participate in the tournament that starts this Monday on El Paraíso Golf Club course is extraordinary. Quite possibly the best of all the tournaments this season in the Gecko.
We’ll do a quick overview. Among the players who will be fighting for the victory at Paraíso will be: British golfer Alex Belt and Swedish golfer Andreas Andersson, the only two golfers who have won two tournaments this season. Belt, additionally, is coming off the win at the Marbella Golf Club Resort with an eagle on the 18th hole and is one of the most in shape golfers at the moment. He’s played three tournaments in the Gecko and has won two.
But the association of winners in the Gecko doesn’t stop there…Mario Galiano, Noemí Jiménez, Sam Connor, Gonzalo Gancedo, Fredrik From and William Nygard will also be there. All of whom have gotten a taste of being up close and personal in the fight for the win this year in the best winter tour in Europe. In other words, in the Gecko Tour winner’s circle this season, there are only two absences. Powerhouse.
There will also be highly experienced golfers in the European Tour such as Carlos del Moral, Jordi García del Moral, Manuel Quirós, Gabriel Cañizares and James Robinson, to name a few.
But what’s more, Swedish golfer sponsored by Guadalmina, Marcus Svensson, will be at Paraíso exhibiting his shiny new champion’s title of the Copa de Andalucía, one of the most promising up-and-coming amateurs at the moment, as well as Dermot McElroy, Northern Irish golfer who just went pro a couple months ago and was already on the verge of winning three days ago in Marbella. The British golfer has generated many high hopes and expectations.
The tournament will also help start to clarify the order of merit. The rankings are very tight, with ten players separated by not even four thousand points. They’re the top nine and all of them will be at Paraíso. The fight for the top spot is especially exciting. After the last tournament in Marbella, Sam Connor is dominating with just a few points difference with respect to Andersson.
The first game of the day will be at nine in the morning and the last at eleven. More than seventy golfers will be fighting for the win and to move up in the rankings, even if just for one day at El Paraíso.
