The Marbella Golf and Country Club course will host the fifteenth tournament of the Gecko Tour season this Monday and Tuesday. The best winter tour in Europe is starting its countdown. There are nine tournaments left and everything is up in the air. More than fifty golfers will fight for the win with an eye out for the order of merit. Sam Connor, leader in the rankings, will not be in Marbella, which means it will be a great opportunity for the others who are trailing behind to move up.

This is the case with Andreas Andersson, second by a handful of points away from the British golfer, Fredrik From, third, Gonzalo Gancedo, William Nygard and Gabriel Cañizares. All of whom have a window of opportunity this week to get closer to the leader and to make the rankings tighter. The Gecko battle is at its peak and there’s no better place to witness it than the Marbella course, which also happens to be general Gecko headquarters. The Marbella Golf and Country Club is an enchanting course. It was demonstrated a few months ago, in the third tournament of the season. It had to be cut back to just one round and the victory went to José Luis Gross. It was one of the most surprising, most emotional wins in the history of the Gecko. Living proof that anything can happen in golf.

It was a date to go down in history books, but not because Gross didn’t have the talent nor more than the sufficient capacity to win a tournament, but rather because of the touching story behind it, whose message was that if you fight for your dreams, they really can come true. The champion of Marbella is a dentist by profession and a golf fanatic. He dedicates the time he can and what his first profession life and family allow for to the sport. In the spare moments he’s found, he’s managed to become a great player. To the point of winning a tournament in the Gecko.

Thus, it’s evident that at the Marbella Golf and Country Club, incredible things can happen. Apart from the aforementioned golfers, among other noteworthy players who will be present are Jordi García del Moral, who will play in his third consecutive tournament, James Maw, second place two days ago at Atalaya, Manuel Quirós, Marcos Pastor, Dermot McElroy and Christopher Sahlstrom, probably the golfer who has been consistently closest to the win these past weeks.

The first round will commence this Monday, the first game at nine in the morning. The last game to start will be at ten thirty. One of the headlining games will be Andersson, Gabriel Cañizares and George Bloor. They will begin at 9:50 on the 1st hole.
