Lee Westwood will join tournament host Luke Donald and Olympic Champion Justin Rose at the British Masters supported by Sky Sports at The Grove, from October 13-16.
The Englishman will play in his tenth consecutive Ryder Cup when he wears the European blue at Hazeltine National next month, and British golf fans will then have the chance to see him in action on home soil a fortnight later when he attempts to win the British Masters title for a second time.
Westwood, who is a future host of the tournament, first triumphed at The Belfry in 2007 and came close to successfully defending his crown the following year, when he lost in a play-off to Spaniard Gonzalo Fernandez-Castaño.
The tournament returned to the European Tour schedule in 2015, when Westwood finished tied 17th at Woburn Golf Club, and after some impressive performances already in 2016 – including finishing runner-up at the Masters Tournament – the 43 year old will be aiming to add to his haul of 23 European Tour titles when he tees it up at The Grove.

More than 57,000 attended last year’s British Masters, and with the tournament aiming to help boost golf participation in Britain by engaging with new and existing audiences through innovative coverage and initiatives such as live masterclasses, Westwood has encouraged fans to support the event again at The Grove.
“The fans always give us great support at tournaments in Britain, so I’m really looking forward to playing in front of them at The Grove,” said Westwood. “The British Masters is an event that I’ve always enjoyed and I’ve got a pretty good record too over the years, so I’m looking forward to it.
“I think The Grove will be another great venue for a European Tour event, following on from the success at Woburn last year. I played a WGC event there in 2006 and enjoyed it then, so it will be nice to go back there and I know Luke, Sky Sports and The European Tour will do a good job again in terms of helping engage with fans, which was one of the best things about the tournament last year.”
Westwood’s stablemate and Ryder Cup teammate at Hazeltine National, Matthew Fitzpatrick, claimed his maiden European Tour title at last year’s British Masters supported by Sky Sports.
This year’s venue, The Grove, previously hosted the WGC – American Express Championship in 2006, which was won by Tiger Woods, with Poulter – last year’s British Masters tournament host – joint runner-up alongside Adam Scott, while Donald finished in a share of sixth place.
