Michael Hendry had never been so glad to miss a cut…

Manuel Arenas Ortiz — Mon, 22 Jul 2024 14:09:22 +0000

Friday. Scorecard of 78 strokes and a total of +10. Michael Hendry bids farewell to the Open Championship. Another one succumbs to the claws of Royal Troon. This could be any story, that of another player who does not make a cut in a Major. However, Michael Hendry’s is one of the great stories of […]

Campillo and the last 54 holes for reflection (and hope)

Silvia Pereira — Sun, 21 Jul 2024 19:20:09 +0000

The small feat of Jorge Campillo in this Open should not be forgotten. After a devastating first round of 80 strokes that put him in 155th place in the ranking, the Extremaduran reacted and signed the best record of the second round to just make the cut, the first one he passed in a Major, […]

In case there was any doubt that Schauffele is made for the Majors

Silvia Pereira — Sun, 21 Jul 2024 18:54:39 +0000

Xander Schauffele (-9) has won the 152nd edition of the Open Championship and rounds off a beautiful and round figure by becoming the ninetieth different winner of this tournament, since its first edition in 1860. He has achieved this after signing a groundbreaking card of 65 strokes in the final round. Undeniable. Overwhelming. Let’s bear […]

The shadow of Havers, Weiskopf, Calcavecchia, Leonard, Hamilton and Stenson is long

Silvia Pereira — Sat, 20 Jul 2024 20:46:21 +0000

Nine editions of the Open had been contested at Royal Troon until this week’s, which is the tenth. Well, of the nine different winners who were crowned on the Ayrshire course, six won their first and only Open here and, what’s more curious, their first and only Major. Six out of nine, not bad. A […]

Jon gets a high grade, but perhaps he needed something more…

Silvia Pereira — Sat, 20 Jul 2024 20:26:27 +0000

Jon Rahm (+2) has scored well in the extremely tough test that today’s third round of the Open has been for the last stretch of the day’s matches, where all the favourites were obviously marching. For hours, the game was played at Royal Troon under the best conditions of the week, without water and a […]

Jon, at last, in his natural habitat

Silvia Pereira — Fri, 19 Jul 2024 20:31:01 +0000

Less than twenty players have won today’s match at the Old course of Royal Troon. Among them, Jon Rahm (+1, round of 70) and Jorge Campillo (+6), who has also been one of the scarce six players who have handed in a card of 68 strokes, the best record of the day. The Extremaduran had […]

Lowry’s profession takes everything ahead

Silvia Pereira — Fri, 19 Jul 2024 15:34:07 +0000

Shane Lowry (-7) rules with an iron hand the 152nd edition of the Open: he has signed a 69 on a second day without water, true, but windier than Thursday, with gusts from the south that exceeded forty kilometres per hour. Not even a sudden accident on the 11th, where he failed the exit to […]

Daniel Brown, official leader; Shane Lowry, unofficial leader

Silvia Pereira — Thu, 18 Jul 2024 21:51:22 +0000

Daniel Brown (-6) is the first leader of the 152nd edition of the Open Championship and the indispensable Cinderella of a tournament that has started in a formidable way. He is so after signing a 65 and also one of the only two bogey-free cards of the day. The other one is Shane Lowry’s (-5). […]

And my bag was placed between Nicklaus’s and Seve’s…

Silvia Pereira — Wed, 17 Jul 2024 18:52:22 +0000

I think we are leaving Royal Troon today with our homework done a few hours before the start of an Open that evidently Luis (Masaveu) will never forget in his life. His first Major. It sounds like a cliché, but the instructions, beyond the technical aspects of the course or the strategy, are summed up […]

Elvira prescribes herself the perfect remedy almost without realizing it…

Silvia Pereira — Tue, 16 Jul 2024 19:13:36 +0000

– Nacho Elvira is not arriving at his best to the Open at Royal Troon, let’s be honest. Even though the 2024 season is being the best of his career to date. The most consistent. And with a victory included in Belgium. However, his latest results have not been as expected. Nor the sensations. It’s […]
