The two teams that will face each other in just over three weeks at the Presidents Cup 2026 are now complete. Brandt Snedeker, captain of the United States, and Geoff Ogilvy, in charge of the International team, announced on Tuesday their six personal picks to complete the line-ups that will compete at the end of September on Course No. 3 at Medinah Country Club, in Chicago.
Snedeker has chosen Chris Gotterup, Xander Schauffele, Justin Thomas, Patrick Cantlay, Jacob Bridgeman and Jackson Koivun, who join the six American players who had secured automatic qualification: Scottie Scheffler, Cameron Young, Wyndham Clark, Sam Burns, Russell Henley and Collin Morikawa.
Thus, the United States team for Medinah will be made up of Scheffler, Young, Clark, Burns, Henley, Morikawa, Gotterup, Schauffele, Thomas, Cantlay, Bridgeman and Koivun.
Ogilvy, for his part, has opted for Corey Conners, Nico Echavarria, Nick Taylor, Sungjae Im, Ryo Hisatsune and Christiaan Bezuidenhout. His six picks join a group that had already secured places: Si Woo Kim, Ryan Fox, Hideki Matsuyama, Min Woo Lee, Tom Kim and Adam Scott.
Thus, the twelve members of the International team will be Si Woo Kim, Fox, Matsuyama, Min Woo Lee, Tom Kim, Scott, Conners, Echavarria, Taylor, Im, Hisatsune and Bezuidenhout.
The selections leave some particularly interesting decisions. Gotterup, seventh in the standings, was the first player to miss out on the six automatic United States spots, while Snedeker has also turned to three men with huge experience in this type of competition such as Schauffele, Thomas and Cantlay. They are joined by Bridgeman and Koivun, two new faces at the Presidents Cup.
Koivun’s inclusion is one of the most eye-catching picks by the United States captain. Snedeker has left out, among others, Ben Griffin and J.J. Spaun, who had finished eighth and tenth respectively in the standings, while Bridgeman was twelfth and Cantlay thirteenth.
Ogilvy has also departed from the order set by the rankings. Conners, Echavarria, Im and Hisatsune, from seventh to tenth in the standings, received four of his picks, but the Australian has dispensed with Jason Day and Casey Jarvis, eleventh and twelfth, to back Nick Taylor and Christiaan Bezuidenhout.
30 matches and five sessions at Medinah
The Presidents Cup will have a format at Medinah of 30 matches spread over five sessions across four days. The competition will start on Thursday with five fourball matches, while on Friday five foursomes will be played.
Saturday will be the busiest day, with a double session and eight points at stake: four fourball matches in the morning and four foursomes in the afternoon. Finally, on Sunday the traditional 12 singles matches will be played, with all members of both teams on the course.
In total there will therefore be 18 pairs matches and 12 singles, with 30 points up for grabs over the four days of competition.
The Presidents Cup will return this month to the United States to hold its sixteenth edition at a venue steeped in history. The Course No. 3 of Medinah, located on the outskirts of Chicago and host of the memorable 2012 Ryder Cup, will stage the matches from 24 to 27 September.
The United States will once again go into the event as defending champions and the competition’s historical dominant force. The American side has recorded ten consecutive victories since the 2003 tie, while the International team’s only victory came at Royal Melbourne in 1998.
Snedeker will serve as United States captain for the first time, while Ogilvy will have the responsibility of trying to end at Medinah the International team’s 28-year wait since their only victory.
