It was an open secret and now it’s public. The PGA of America has officially approved a plan whereby it will pay American players for participating in the Ryder Cup. In previous editions, they already received money for charitable foundations that wished, now they will also receive it for their own benefit.
The total each player participating in Bethpage will receive is half a million dollars. Three hundred thousand for charitable purposes and the rest directly for themselves.
Until the present edition, each American player received 200,000 dollars to allocate to a charitable organisation of their choice, an idea that was born in 1999. This charitable allocation increases to 300,000 dollars.
From now on, the total each player will receive will be half a million dollars and therefore, they will receive 200,000 dollars for their own benefit. The captain will receive the same amount, although Keegan Bradley has already announced that he will donate his entire share to charitable causes.
In a statement published on its social media announcing the news, the PGA of America stated that “no player has asked to be compensated” and that “the players and captains, past and present, are responsible for making the Ryder Cup the most special competition in golf and one of the most sought-after events in the international sports scene.”
The message from the PGA of America concluded by saying: “We are grateful to the many players and captains over the years who have so passionately represented our country and look forward to a memorable Ryder Cup 2025 at Bethpage Black.”
