Billy Horschel has announced on his social media that next week he will undergo surgery on his right hip. This setback will keep him out of the three remaining Majors this season and, barring a miracle, says goodbye to the Ryder Cup at Bethpage.

The 38-year-old player hopes to return to competition at the end of summer or the beginning of autumn. He has described the surgery as a “preventive measure”. The 2014 FedExCup champion did not compete in the Zurich Classic in New Orleans two weeks ago alongside Tom Hoge, a tournament in which he was registered. He withdrew on Wednesday afternoon, just hours before the start, due to a lower body injury. Now we know why.

“After consulting with doctors and my team, I have decided to undergo right hip surgery early next week in Colorado,” Horschel said on X. “It’s an unfortunate situation with so many big events on the calendar, but it’s a preventive measure. I can’t wait to start rehabilitation, get back to practice, and hope to return to the field sometime at the end of summer/beginning of autumn.”

The eight-time winner on the PGA Tour will not be able to repeat his great performance in last year’s Majors, finishing eighth in the PGA Championship and battling until the final holes in The Open Championship to finish second, the best result of his career in a Major. Horschel is already working to return as soon as possible.
