The Links golf course, located at La Hacienda Links Golf Resort, has been named “Best Golf Course in Spain” at the tenth edition of the World Golf Awards, which reward excellence in golf-related tourism worldwide. The award highlights the excellence of this complex, located in the municipality of San Roque in Cadiz, following the recent investment made by its owners, the socimi Millenium Hospitality (MHRE), the company specialising in the luxury hotel sector in Spain and the significant renovation and improvement of the course led by American architect Kurtis Bowman.

This edition of the World Golf Awards brought together industry leaders from over 65 countries in Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, Latin America, North America and Oceania. Javier Illán, president of Millenium Hospitality, stressed: “We are very proud to receive this award, which is a recognition of the incredible work done by the entire team at La Hacienda and by Kurtis Bowman, who has directed one of the most special courses in southern Europe. It is impossible not to fall in love with the course, the green complexes, the bunkering and the exceptional views that surround us.”

This international award adds to the list of recognitions that the Links course at La Hacienda has garnered in 2023 after the par 72 layout was recognised in the prestigious annual “Renovation of the Year” competition by Golf Inc. magazine.

Javier Jiménez Casquet, general manager of La Hacienda Links Golf Resort, who collected the award, said: “This award is very important to us, and recognises the effort of all the professionals who have participated in the renovation of our Links course and, of course, its designer Kurtis Bowman, who has done a magnificent redesign job, along with the team from Acttua Golf Services, and our wonderful staff here.”

Located in the municipality of San Roque in Cadiz, the Links course runs along the beachfront with spectacular views of the Mediterranean, Gibraltar and Africa, and was one of the largest course renovation projects carried out in Europe in 2022.

As part of the transformation project to reconfigure and redesign the layout, Bowman was the chosen architect to improve the layout of the holes, the conditioning, the landscape and the sustainability results. The work carried out included the remodelling of all the tees, green complexes and bunkers, and the redesign of several holes.

The improvement of the Links course is part of a major renovation project being carried out at La Hacienda Links Golf Resort, which has seen the complex consolidate as one of the emerging stars of the European golf circuit in the last 12 months.

Ambition to become one of the most exclusive and luxurious golf developments

In addition to the relaunch of the Links course and the renovation of its new clubhouse, the complex has undertaken a series of improvements to its golf and leisure facilities, including new investments in its other 18-hole course, the Heathland course.

Other improvements carried out include the launch of a new website, as well as updated accommodation and golf packages, and the opening of the Halfway House “Calma Bar” halfway through the Links course, while La Hacienda will fully launch a new 213-room and villa Fairmont hotel in 2024, highlighting the complex’s ambition to become one of the most exclusive and luxurious golf developments in Spain.

Jiménez Casquet also emphasises that “this latest success would not have been possible without the firm commitment of the Millenium Hospitality group, and especially our president Javier Illán, who has been clear from the beginning about the goal of positioning the resort as one of the best in Spain and Europe. He always saw the potential of the resort, and that’s why not only has our iconic Links course been renovated, but in addition to a rebranding, next summer will see the opening of the “Fairmont La Hacienda” hotel project, a hotel complex that, with its luxury accommodation offer, will undoubtedly be a driver for tourism in the area.”
