European captain Anna Nordqvist has named Anne van Dam as vice-captain for the 2026 Solheim Cup, which will be held from 11 to 13 September at Bernardus Golf (Netherlands). The Dutch player joins Caroline Hedwall (Sweden) and Mel Reid (England) in a team that combines charisma, competition knowledge, and a strong connection with current European golfers. Perhaps the presence of someone more regular on the LPGA Tour is missed.

Additionally, Van Dam will take on a historic dual role: she will be captain of the European team in the PING Junior Solheim Cup 2026 (7–8 September) and vice-captain of the senior team in the same week and on the same course. It is the first time that a course hosts the Junior and the Solheim in consecutive weeks, and the first time that the junior captain also serves as vice-captain of the senior team.

A Dutch reference with LET pedigree

Born in Arnhem, Van Dam brings titles and a direct connection to the venue. Five-time winner on the Ladies European Tour, Olympian in Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024, she was part of the European team that won the Solheim in 2019. Her figure, well-recognised by the Dutch fans, will be key to connecting the team with the home crowd.

Anne van Dam: “It is an honour to be vice-captain in 2026. Being able to captain the PING Junior Solheim Cup and support my friend Anna Nordqvist during the same week, at home, will be incredible. The Solheim is one of the biggest events in golf. I am looking forward to bringing the experience of having played it and everything I learn leading the junior team. It is going to be an unforgettable week.”

Van Dam and Nordqvist played a foursome together in the 2019 Solheim Cup held in Scotland. They lost 2&1 against Morgan Pressel and Marina Alex. The Dutch player played four points in that Solheim and only won one, curiously partnering with Pettersen in a fourball. Europe won that edition at Gleneagles.

Nordqvist, winning continuity

Anna Nordqvist was vice-captain-player in 2023 and again in 2024, her ninth appearance in the Solheim Cup. With five victories as part of the European team and three majors in her record, her leadership and experience are a guarantee. Continuity with respect to Suzann Pettersen. Anna Nordqvist: “I am delighted to have Anne as vice-captain. She brings experience, energy, and a special connection with our host country. She will be a fantastic influence on team spirit and a great bridge with the Dutch fans. Her role will be key to making this Solheim truly unforgettable.”

Bernardus, a top-class venue

Inaugurated in 2018, Bernardus Golf has hosted three editions of the KLM Dutch Open (2021–2023) on the DP World Tour and is ready to offer a top-level setup for the Solheim Cup. Sport, entertainment, and hospitality will come together for a ‘premium’ experience.

Recent context

Europe retained the trophy at Finca Cortesín 2023 after the 14–14 draw, while United States won 15½–12½ in the most recent edition held in Virginia. The Bernardus event promises a new thrilling chapter in the transatlantic rivalry.
