Chaparral Golf Club celebrated on 19 June a historic evening to mark the 20th Anniversary of its reopening, an event that brought together at its facilities around a hundred guests including authorities, representatives from the tourism and golf sectors, businesspeople, collaborators, members and family members who have led the club’s evolution over these two decades.
The commemorative gala, held in the Casa Club de Chaparral Golf, paid tribute to the trajectory of an entity that has established itself as one of the benchmark courses of the Costa del Sol and of the national golf scene, preserving the essence of the project driven by the Rubio family since its reopening in February 2006.
Among those attending were the deputy mayor of Mijas, Juan José Torres; representatives of the Ayuntamiento de Mijas; Antonio Díaz, managing director of Turismo y Planificación Costa del Sol; Pablo Mansilla, president of the Real Federación Andaluza de Golf; members of the Federación Andaluza de Golf; captains and former captains of the club; as well as representatives of collaborating companies and prominent figures linked to tourism and golf on the Costa del Sol.
The evening began with a welcome cocktail on the terrace of the Casa Club, accompanied by live flamenco music, followed by a gala dinner hosted by presenters Ángel Rodríguez and Fidel Alonso. Throughout the night various audiovisuals were shown that charted the club’s history, from the challenges of its recovery to its current consolidation as a facility recognised for its quality, sustainability and excellence in the player experience.
One of the most moving moments of the evening was the recognition of two long-serving former employees of the club, Antonio Ruiz and Andrés Gómez, who were presented with a commemorative plaque in gratitude for their dedication and contribution to the growth of Chaparral Golf. A tribute that symbolised the recognition of all the people who have been part of the club’s history over these twenty years.
The gala also served to highlight the figure of Antonio Rubio, driving force behind the project and president of the ownership, whose business vision made it possible to recover a course that had remained closed since the early 1990s and bring it back to life while respecting the original design of the renowned architect Pepe Gancedo, known as the “Picasso of Spanish golf”.
During the event, Miguel Lizana, CEO of Chaparral Golf Club, thanked all those present and emphasised the importance of this milestone for the entity: “Today, we celebrate much more than an anniversary. We celebrate twenty years of passion, dedication, commitment, and teamwork. Chaparral Golf is the result of one family’s dream and the dedication of so many people who have believed in this project from day one. Tonight is a tribute to all of them, and an opportunity to look ahead to the future with the same excitement and enthusiasm that inspired this journey from the very beginning.”
For their part, the Rubio family wished to express their gratitude to all the institutions, staff, members, clients and collaborators who have accompanied the club over these two decades, emphasising that the growth of Chaparral Golf has been made possible thanks to the support of a community sharing the same values of effort, respect for the environment and passion for golf.
The celebration concluded with a live musical performance and a toast to the club’s future, reaffirming Chaparral Golf‘s commitment to excellence, innovation and the sustainable development of one of the most distinctive sporting venues on the Costa del Sol.
Twenty years after its reopening, Chaparral Golf continues to write its story with the same philosophy that inspired its rebirth: to offer a unique golf experience in a privileged natural setting where the Mediterranean woodland and the sea meet.
