Who else but José María Olazábal. Two Green Jackets. Prince of Asturias Award. There he was. Ready and waiting. He was one of the first to congratulate Jon Rahm on his victory in 2023, one of the first to also congratulate Sergio García in 2017, and he couldn’t miss the historic triumph of Carla Bernat. There is the man from Fuenterrabía, next to the house where scorecards are handed in at Augusta, very close to the iconic oak tree that shelters the clubhouse of the Georgia coliseum.
It hasn’t been an easy path for Carla Bernat. Since she left the green of the 18th hole, with victory already secured in her pocket, she hasn’t stopped hugging friends, family, and people from her Kansas State University. She hasn’t avoided signing autographs either, even before signing her card, for the little ones waiting for her gesture. Friendly and approachable with everyone.
Upon finally arriving at the place where the results are handed in, she saw José María Olazábal and they shared a warm and emotional embrace. From a legend to one who is beginning to forge her own. Carla’s story has only just begun, but it looks impressive.
