El Royal and Ancient acaba de hacer oficial la lista de torneos que ofrecerán plazas directas para el Open Championship del próximo año que se jugará en Royal Portrush. Uno de los elegidos es el Andalucía Valderrama Masters. Otra gran noticia para la cita española que tendrá lugar del 27 al 30 de junio de 2019.
Se trata, sin duda, de un aliciente añadido para captar la atención de los mejores jugadores del mundo, al menos de aquellos que, a menos de un mes para jugar el British, no tengan su plaza asegurada. Así las cosas, los tres primeros de la clasificación de Andalucía Valderrama Masters, que estén en el top ten, y que no estén clasificados previamente para el Open, obtendrán su billete para jugar la edición 148º del torneo más antiguo del mundo.
Hay que decir que Valderrama sustituye, en este caso, al Open de Francia, que era uno de los torneos que en los últimos años ofrecía estas tres plazas para el British. Junto a la semana española, hay otros tres torneos del European Tour clasificatorios para el Open. El primero de ellos será el Open de Sudáfrica, en diciembre, y en verano se completará con el Open de Irlanda y el Open de Escocia.
Mientras, los cuatro torneos del PGA Tour incluidos en estas series de clasificación son el Arnold Palmer Invitational, el RBC Canadian Open, el Rocket Mortgage Classic de Detroit y el John Deere Classic, que como cada año entregará el último billete.
Más allá del PGA Tour y del European Tour, habrá otros cuatro torneos más clasificatorios. El primero de ellos, que se disputará la próxima semana, es el Emirates Australian Open. También están el Open de Singapur, donde Sergio García volverá a jugar como defensor del título en enero, el Kolon Korean Open y el Mizuno Open en Japón.
Además de estos torneos clasificatorios, existirán como siempre las previas del British Open. La final se jugará el 2 de julio en los campos de Fairmont St Andrews, Notts, Prince’s y St Annes Old Links. Aquí se clasificarán los tres primeros de cada sede.
