The week of the Masters kicks off with a setback. It’s the rain. The weather forecast predicts a lot of rain today, Monday, in Augusta starting at eight in the morning, local time, which is why it has been decided to prohibit public entry early in the day. The gates will remain closed until further notice.
Augusta National issued a statement urging ticket holders not to travel to the golf course until further notice. “Due to the adverse weather conditions forecasted and for safety reasons, the gates for spectators will not open as scheduled for Monday’s practice round. All public parking will remain closed until further notice. Spectators are asked not to approach Augusta National Golf Club until further details are released.”
At eight in the morning, a new update was provided, and they decided to open the gates to the public. However, at 11.25 am (5.25 pm in mainland Spain), the practice round was suspended due to rain, and the public was evacuated from the stands. Spectators could only enjoy three hours, as shortly after in the afternoon, it was definitively announced that the gates would not reopen.
Due to bad weather and current weather forecasts, Augusta National Golf Club will not reopen its gates to the public on Monday.
Those who had tickets for Monday’s practice round will receive refunds in May and will be guaranteed the opportunity to purchase tickets for Monday’s practice round in 2026. Further information will be provided at the time of the refund. “We are disappointed that our spectators were not able to fully enjoy today’s practice round, but the safety of everyone at Augusta National is our highest priority and was the determining factor in the decision to cancel it,” stated Fred Ridley, chairman of Augusta National Golf Club and the Masters. “We look forward to welcoming our Monday spectators back next year, as well as celebrating this week the wonderful 89th Masters we have ahead.”
The good news is what the forecast says from tomorrow, Tuesday. Initially, it seems it will only rain today and a bit on Friday. On the other hand, for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, the outlook appears clear on the radar, as well as for Saturday and Sunday. As for temperatures, they will be rather mild, between ten and 23 degrees throughout the week. Be that as it may, this is just a forecast. It should not be forgotten that the weather in Augusta is really very changeable and it would not be the first time it surprises throughout the week.
