Andrea Pavan has given his first comments via the DP World Tour after the serious accident he had on Wednesday when he fell down an elevator shaft in Stellenbosch, ahead of the South African Open. His words were of gratitude for the care and affection received, as well as hope for what lies ahead. He admits that these have been very tough moments.

“I would like to sincerely thank everyone for the kind words and well wishes I have received over the last 48 hours. On Wednesday afternoon, I underwent surgery on my shoulder and back and I am currently recovering in the hospital.

Now I have a lot of rehabilitation and hard work ahead of me, but the care I have received so far from the Mediclinic hospital staff has been incredible, as has the support from the DP World Tour, the Sunshine Tour, and all their staff here in Stellenbosch. I am also very grateful for all the help provided by Johann Rupert and his wife Gaynor.

The last two days have been difficult, but I am in very good hands, and having so many players, caddies, and staff members visit and reach out to me has meant a lot to me.

Grazie mille to everyone, from me, my wife Audra, and all my family.”
