Jon Rahm will play the Open de España for another year. He will do so again next October at the Club de Campo Villa de Madrid. This was confirmed on Tuesday morning in Dubai. At least, of course, if nothing changes regarding his legal situation with the DP World Tour. It will be his seventh participation in the tournament, where he boasts a spectacular record of three victories, a second place, a ninth, and a seventeenth. As you may recall, last year he fell in the first playoff hole against Ángel Hidalgo.
Jon is going to play the 14 LIV Golf tournaments in 2025, thirteen individual and the team final, as well as the four Majors. The goal, by the way, is to win at least one of the four and if he can choose, he doesn’t hesitate, the Open Championship, which will be held in July at Royal Portrush, Northern Ireland. From there, his schedule won’t increase much more. Normally, he will play a total of 22 tournaments in 2025.
The four remaining after LIV and the Majors are from the DP World Tour. Specifically, this week’s Hero Dubai Desert Classic, the previously mentioned Open de España, and the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth. The big news in 2025 will be his return to the flagship tournament of the DP World Tour, an event he has played three times with two second places and a fourth. The 22nd tournament, obviously, should be the Ryder Cup at Bethpage, as long as nothing unusual happens.
In principle, if everything goes according to plan, Rahm will end the year 2025 in terms of competition with the Open de España in October. In this way, he would play one more tournament than in 2024, although it should be noted that he did not play the US Open against his will, due to a toe injury. If he had played at Pinehurst, it would be exactly the same schedule, fourteen from LIV, the four Majors, three from the DP World Tour, and the Olympic Games instead of the Ryder Cup. Those three European Tour tournaments, considering one is the Open de España, would be the minimum to maintain his membership status on the tour.
In this instance, Rahm will replace the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, which he played last year largely due to a commitment made to a friend, with Wentworth and the Estrella Damm Andalucía Masters, which has disappeared from the 2025 calendar, with the Hero Dubai Desert Classic.
Thus, in Spain, we will be able to see Jon again on two occasions: LIV Golf Valderrama in July and Open de España in October.
