Now, it’s official. As Ten Golf has been pointing out since the Open de España, Sergio García will play next season on the DP World Tour. The Castellón native confirmed it this week in a statement on his social media, which definitively clears up a question that had in fact been largely anticipated for some time.

The message leaves no doubt. “Next season I will play on the DP World Tour. This circuit has been a very important part of my career from the beginning and I am proud to call it home again,” explains Sergio. It is, essentially, the confirmation of what was already known: his immediate future lies with the European circuit. His aim is to play the Ryder Cup again and, first and foremost, that required returning full-time to the DP World Tour.

The statement also adds an important nuance. García says that he keeps his options open to return to the PGA Tour, so his planning is not limited solely to the European schedule. In any case, the main move has been made and is especially significant in a year that culminates in several major objectives. For the PGA Tour, based on what has happened previously, he would have to wait until next August, exactly when a year will have passed since his last tournament in LIV. It does not seem that the PGA Tour will make things easy for García.

Sergio explains that he is using the pre-season to work hard on his game, but also to put a special emphasis on mental strength. “This winter I am working very hard on my game and placing a big focus on a strong mindset and on my mental health,” he notes.

That point connects directly with another of the most striking passages of the statement: Augusta. The Spaniard admits he left the Masters last year disappointed with himself and that he wants to arrive in 2027 in a different situation. “I left Augusta last year disappointed with myself and with my actions, and I am ready to show what I have learned and where I am mentally,” he says. It should be remembered that images of Sergio smashing his driver against the fridge on the tee of hole 2 went around the world.

Sergio also admits he is particularly excited to return to the Masters, a tournament that has given him some of the most important moments of his career. “Augusta has given me some of the best moments of my life and I would like nothing more than to fight for another green jacket in such a special place,” he assures.

The other big goal of the calendar is, of course, the Ryder Cup. García does not hide it. On the contrary. He spells it out as one of his major objectives for the season. “It’s a big year ahead with the Ryder Cup, and I will work to the utmost for every opportunity I have to play the bigger events and the most important tournaments in the world,” he explains. And he adds: “Another goal is to be part of that Ryder Cup team and to be useful for the boys in whatever capacity”.

That is, he not only wants to be back in the conversation, but to put himself in a position to help Europe in the appropriate way, always from a very clear idea: nothing is given away. “In golf, everything is earned and nothing is given,” he concludes.

The announcement ultimately confirms the trajectory that was already known. Sergio is once again placing his focus on the DP World Tour, in a schedule that will allow him to get close to the big stages of world golf, start with Augusta and keep the hope of the Ryder Cup alive. All of this, furthermore, with the door ajar to a possible return to the PGA Tour.
