Jon Rahm is in his element, where he likes it most, where he usually is. Or where he used to be, because this year it has been a bit harder for him. “I feel just as good as when I won the US Open or the Masters, I feel like every time I’ve played well. I’m as comfortable as in those victories,” Rahm assures. Jon is not oblivious to what is at stake this Sunday. “Golf may be a fairly new sport in the Games, but they are the Olympic Games and we all have very clear what is at stake,” he says. Regarding his level of play, the Spanish player detects that things are finally going his way. “I’ve been playing well all year, but I haven’t been able to give myself the best opportunities. The last month has been very rewarding, playing better and better, winning last week and having a good Open. The game was better at Troon than the result showed. It’s nice to see that things have gone so well. The best thing is to be back in this position so quickly,” he points out.
Rahm is also very happy with the support he is receiving from the public, both Spanish and French. “We are very close to Spain and it shows. As in all countries, the Spanish fan is very passionate about their own. Many came to the Games and have decided to come to golf. The Spanish presence is much greater than I expected. They are very visible and usually the ones who shout the most. That helps a lot. Although the rest of the public has also been fantastic. It has been a very pleasant week. The reception we have had at the first tee has been fantastic.”
