Phil Mickelson, winner of 45 tournaments on the PGA Tour, including six majors, revealed this Tuesday in a message posted on social media that his brother Tim has decided to end his stint as a caddie. He did so by thanking him for the help he has given him throughout his professional career, in which both have been able to share the golfer’s successes from San Diego for years.

“I’ve had great achievements in my career and being able to share them with my brother Tim has been more than special. I’m very lucky to have had him by my side for the last eight years and as a brother for life. Much has changed since I was single and we started working together. He found his life partner, Maranda, they had their second child and, hopefully, their family will continue to grow”, began the good Phil, whom Tim has caddied for in recent years.

“As Tim decides to retire as a caddie, it’s time to appreciate the great moments we’ve shared on the course and I look forward to many more off it as well”, he concluded. After many years with Bones Mackay, current caddie of Justin Thomas, carrying his bag, Phil began working with his brother, an accredited golf professional who was Jon Rahm‘s coach at university and his first representative.

Tim, seven years younger than Phil (who is currently 53 years old), began carrying his brother’s bag in June 2017. During this time, Mickelson has won three PGA Tour tournaments, including the 2021 PGA Championship, his sixth major. Two years ago they both set off for LIV Golf, where Phil has so far not achieved victories and only adds up three top 10s in 24 tournaments. At the moment it is not known who will replace Tim as Phil‘s caddie, although several rumours point to Jon Yarbrough, who has been caddie for Scott Stallings for a decade and who could start this new stage at the LIV Golf event in Doral, Miami, next week.

Stallings revealed that Yarbrough was leaving his bag with a post on social media that said: “You made me a better player inside the ropes and a better man outside them. Thank you for everything”. Now it remains to be seen if he is the one chosen by Phil to replace his brother Tim almost seven years later.
