Lowry joins Rory, Tiger stays and four names are dropped from the TGL

The TGL has used its expansion to renew a significant part of its teams. The competition led by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy has announced the rosters for its third season, which will begin on 27 December 2026 at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. There will be seven teams, 35 players and twelve debutants, as well as the first transfer in its history: Shane Lowry leaves The Bay Golf Club to join McIlroy at Boston Common Golf.

The addition of Motor City Golf Club, the franchise representing Detroit, is not the only structural change. Rosters increase from four to five players, although each team will still field three in each match. More options to mix players and organise their schedules, but also a refresh that leaves out four members from the first two editions.

Among the continuities, of course, stands Tiger Woods, who keeps his place as a player at Jupiter Links. And among the collective absences, one that continues to affect the Spanish fan: none of the 35 announced golfers is from the Armada

Schauffele, Scott, Glover and Kisner drop out of the rosters

The departures compared to 2026 include notable names. Xander Schauffele is no longer listed for New York Golf Club; Adam Scott for Boston Common Golf; Lucas Glover for Atlanta Drive; and Kevin Kisner for Jupiter Links.

These are not shirt-swaps within the competition: the four are left out of the squads announced for 2027. Their departures coincide with an increase in the number of available spots and with the arrival of players who have come to prominence on the PGA Tour.

In Scott’s case, McIlroy’s new team composition combines the addition of Lowry with the consolidation of Michael Thorbjornsen, who had already played as a substitute during last season

Lowry, the only player to switch teams

Lowry is the only player who moves from one franchise to another among the announced rosters His move from The Bay to Boston also constitutes the first transfer in TGL history. Transfer, obviously, in many, many quotation marks, as there is no money exchanged between the teams

The deal allows McIlroy to have a teammate with whom he already won the Zurich Classic of New Orleans in 2024 and has shared a team in the Ryder Cup. “Shane is a great friend and someone I love having by my side in a team competition”, Rory said

The agreement also has a sporting planning element. The Bay receives Boston’s fourth-round pick in the 2027 roster formation process, used to bring in Ryan Fox, as well as the right to swap a draft position with Boston during one of the next three pre-seasons and other commercial considerations. Sporting exchange, not economic

Thus, The Bay loses an Open champion, Lowry, but brings in the current winner of the Claret Jug, Fox. It also adds the young Blades Brown, who at 19 has become the youngest player to earn a PGA Tour card via the Korn Ferry Tour

Tiger retains his place as a player

Tiger Woods remains at Jupiter Links and occupies one of its five player slots, not solely in a promoter or owner role. His presence keeps the expectation of seeing him compete again, although the roster announcement does not yet confirm on which days he will be lined up

The most recent precedent within the league is in the 2026 final. After accompanying the team for much of the season from off the course, Woods returned to play the second match of the title series against Los Angeles Golf Club

For the new campaign he will continue to be joined by Max Homa and Tom Kim. Akshay Bhatia moves from substitute to permanent member and Keith Mitchell joins as a debutant, while Kisner leaves the team

Koepka and Koivun lead Detroit’s debut

The main novelty among the teams is Motor City Golf Club, which debuts with five players who are also making their competition debuts: Brooks Koepka, Jackson Koivun, Jake Knapp, Si Woo Kim and Bud Cauley

Koepka brings his five majors, while Koivun arrives after accelerating his rise to the elite. He won the 3M Open in his third start as a professional and finished unbeaten on his Presidents Cup debut, with two wins and a tie

There is, incidentally, a curiosity in that new roster: Koivun beat Si Woo Kim in the singles at the recent Presidents Cup In a few weeks they will share a team in the TGL

Detroit’s debut raises the number of franchises from six to seven and brings together five of the twelve debutants announced for the new season

The champions keep their team and New York brings together the Fitzpatricks

Los Angeles Golf Club, 2026 champions, retain their four players: Collin Morikawa, Justin Rose, Tommy Fleetwood and Sahith Theegala. Joining that group is Ben James, who earned his PGA Tour card as the Number One in PGA Tour University

Continuity makes sense in a team that has just lifted the SoFi Cup. Furthermore, the pairing of Rose and Fleetwood offers a revealing stat: in the seven matches across the first two seasons in which both were fielded, Los Angeles achieved six victories and lost only once, in a playoff. Europe and the Ryder Cup…

New York Golf Club, meanwhile, adds Ben Griffin and Alex Fitzpatrick. Alex’s arrival reunites him with his brother Matt, with whom he won this year’s Zurich Classic. Cameron Young and Rickie Fowler complete the team, from which Schauffele departs

At Atlanta Drive, the changes include the arrival of Michael Brennan and the permanent inclusion of Chris Gotterup, alongside Justin Thomas, Patrick Cantlay and Billy Horschel. Brennan makes his league debut after winning this season’s Wyndham Championship and the Baycurrent Classic

Three additions that are not debutants

It’s important to distinguish between making a TGL debut and securing a permanent spot on a roster. Gotterup, Thorbjornsen and Bhatia already played in 2026 as substitutes for Atlanta, Boston and Jupiter, respectively. They now become permanent members of those same teams

For that reason the new list includes twelve debutants and 23 players who had already participated, although the original rosters of the six franchises totalled 24 slots. The substitutes are also part of that tally of prior experience

The seven TGL teams for 2027 are as follows

In bold, the twelve players who will debut in the league
