What playing conditions on the first day of the Masters. I was watching and thinking: thank goodness I’m not there… It’s a joke, of course we would all love to play the Masters, but you understand why I say it. A lot of wind. A lot of danger. And I have to say that, for how the day was, few big messes were seen. You have to see the number of people who made the recovery on the 11th, for example, which yesterday was a monster of a hole. These guys are very good.

If anything has become clear, it is that it will be very difficult to beat Scheffler in this tournament. What a way to get a result on the most complicated side of the draw. But beyond him and DeChambeau I have to say that I saw the Tiger very well. Especially with the putt. Yesterday it was that Tiger who sinks the putts that need to be sunk, touching the ball very well, although it is true that he did not have many clear birdie options. But I liked him a lot, I even thought I saw him walking lightly around the field. Including him in the list of candidates may be excessive, but why not think of a Tiger finishing this Masters in the top ten… I also really liked Max Homa. Very solid. And the start of Rory I think is not bad at all.

It is clear that the wind was devilish, more than anything I say it because of the number of balls that went into the water on hole 16. I was quite surprised with that flag position, but it is clear that the wind did its thing there. Thank goodness the greens were quite receptive, because otherwise the day could have been a real slaughter… Anyway, even with those slightly softer greens, I insist that I expected to see many more players many more times in big mess situations… As I said, there is a lot of level in general and it is incredible the number of pars and bogeys that were saved from very delicate or directly dramatic positions.

Finally, I wonder what’s going on with Ludvig Aberg… He’s two under and they only took one shot off him. I don’t quite understand it.
