David Puig will be at the PGA Championship. As Ten Golf has learned, the golfer from La Garriga received the invitation from the PGA of America this very Monday.
Thus, the champion of the Malaysian Open last February will play at Valhalla and there will be three Spaniards present at the second major of the season, which takes place next week.
Puig joins Jon Rahm, who qualified as the champion of the Augusta Masters in 2023, as well as by world ranking, and Adrián Otaegui, who earned his pass through the Asian Swing after winning the Volvo China Open of the DP World Tour.
The PGA of America has thus recognized the good play of the young Spanish player, as well as his effort and desire to be in the Majors. Let’s remember that he has played everything he could valid for the world ranking to add the necessary points. He even participated in the Saudi Open, even though he initially did not plan to. He has done everything on his part and the PGA Championship has rewarded his effort, commitment, and talent.
Puig was this Monday in the 106th position of the world ranking. Every year the top 100 of this ranking qualify for the PGA, and in addition, some who are outside that top 100 are added at the discretion of the institution of American professional golf.
Puig will play the second Major of his career after the US Open in 2023, a tournament for which he also qualified by playing the necessary preliminaries. He took advantage of the opportunity by making the cut and finishing in 39th place at Los Angeles Country Club.
Similarly, he has secured his presence at the Open Championship at Royal Troon, a place he won precisely by winning the Malaysian Open of the Asian Tour, an event that distributed three places for the last Major of the year.
The only major left for him to play will be the Augusta Masters, something that for now is more difficult, although if something has shown this year the colossus of Georgia is that it is attentive to the players who perform great performances beyond LIV Golf, as it has shown this year by inviting Joaquín Niemann. Another way to play the Masters would be by winning one of the Majors he plays this year.
