Azahara Diary at the Solheim Cup (I)

Quick hair and make-up session. After another long day of training, it is time for the celebration dinner…

Everything here at the Solheim Cup is incredible. I am in my hotel room, decorated with the European colors and full of presents and things every day. It is impossible to stuff more cloths in the closet! The team morale is fantastic. There is total union, a good vibe, chemistry. The captains are really sweet and have created this amazing atmosphere. We are building a team and, as you already know, I love that.

Last night we all had dinner together and ended up playing some sort of trivia game. It was a lot of fun. We feel no pressure at all, although many have confessed that it will be nerve-racking at the first tee. I’ve been asking the veterans, and I know I am going to have heart attack. The truth is that I am dying to go out there.

By the way, if you can look at pictures of the tournament, don’t miss my arrival to the first tee. The team that lost last night is supposed to come out to play wearing wigs with the colors of the Irish flag (Ha, ha). I hope there is not much of a crowd, although I see a certain atmosphere developing. The tournament starts on Friday, and I am sure we are going to have a lot of support.

Someone told me that a lot of people will be coming from Spain. They are awesome! Friends from San Pedro, people from my club, … They are going to be very loud, you’ll see. I want to thank everyone for coming. And to those that won’t be able to be here, thank you because I know you will be supporting us on TV.

One amazing little detail. The other day we went to the locker room and saw an e-mail expressing support and wishing the team good luck. It was from José María Olazábal. Thank you, Chema! We also received e-mails from Sam Torrance, Darren Clarke and Bernhard Langer. Those guys are great!

We still don’t know who we’ll be playing against. The captains are using these training sessions to try different things. I played with Sandra Gal and Maria Hjorth. And tomorrow I’ll be playing with Catriona Matthew. Let’s see what happens… I will tell you more in the following days. Thanks for being there.

Go, Europe!! Vamoooooooos!!!
